In the heart of the Portes du Soleil domain, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, Châtel is only 12 miles from the nearest Swiss motorway exit, 1Hr 30 mins from the Geneva International Airport, and 45 minutes from Thonon-les-Bains Railway Station served directly by the High-Speed Train (TGV).

The chalet itself can be found here on Google Earth 46deg 17min 01.21sec N, 6deg 48min 53.09sec E>

Close to the Slopes

La Panthiaz is the nearest ski lift about 700 m from the chalet and well served by the ski shuttle bus that stops at the end of the lane (less than 1 min walk).  A second bus stops at the top of the lane (also less than 1 min walk) that takes you to and from Super Chatel in Chatel itself.  A short walk takes you to the "sports centre" (half way to the supermarket) where another shuttle bus links with the rest of the area.  All the lifts outside Chatel itself have good car parking close to the lifts.

From Calais

From Calais take the A26 to Reims. At Reims the A26 temporarily becomes the A4 before reverting to the A26 towards Troyes
At Troyes take the A5 to Langres, then the A31 to Dijon, the A39 to Dole then the A36 to Besancon.
Follow signs for Lausanne via Pontarlie, across country, then head round Lac Leman to the North and East towards Montreux/Aigle (signposted Grd St Bernard initially I think – not Bern) and on to Martigny.
Come off the motorway at Monthey (also signposted Col de Morgins) and climb up to Morgins and on to Chatel.
Drive through Chatel and about 3 km down the valley you will pass La Ville du Nant. Here there is a road on the left that doubles back towards La Linga.
If you pass a chair lift called La Panthiaz or end up going through La Chapelle d’Abondance you have gone too far.
Take the Linga road and about 400 yards on the left is the Hameau du Saix. 100 yds up this small road you will see a small development of new chalets nestled between the Chatel road and the Linga road.
Chalet Albine is the third chalet past the poubelle hut.

All motorways are toll roads. At the Swiss border past Pontarlier you should really buy a pass for the Swiss motorways. I believe that there is a £75 fine if you are caught without one.

From Geneva

On leaving the airport you need to follow signs for "Geneve" or "Centre Ville" or "Lac" or "Lac Leman".
Basically you want to head into the centre of town which is where the lake is and where the famous fountain is.
Just keep following the signs and you will soon come to the lake side.
You need to keep the lake on your left, following signs for "Douvaine" and drive right alongside the lake. It is a straight road through the border and then through Douvaine.
The road should be signposted Thonon and Evian so just keep going until you come to Thonon.

When you are in Thonon you will eventually come to a set of lights signposted "Centre Ville" straight on and "Autre Directions" or "Toutes Directions" to the right. When you are in Thonon you will eventually come to a set of lights signposted "Centre Ville" straight on and "Autre Directions" or "Toutes Directions" to the right. Taking “Autre Direction” follow your nose and at the next lights turn right again under a bridge. You will then come to a set of lights with the left lane going straight ahead and the right lane turning right. You need the left lane to go straight ahead. You should then come upon a roundabout. Take the last exit and at the next junction (near a railway crossing - which is straight ahead) turn right again. You should have picked up signposts to Morzine, Abondance, Lets Gets, Val d'Abondance etc. The road now takes you up hill and out of town. Within a few kilometres (maybe 10 or so), you are now in the mountains, you will come to a big roundabout. Take the second exit towards Abondance (the first exit goes to Morzine and St Jean D'Aulp). Keep going up the mountain to Abondance and then Chapelle d'Abondance. After Chapelle d'Abondance you go past a ski lift station called La Panthiaz, on the right, and within a few hundred yards there is a fork in the road at a place called La ville du Nant. The right fork should be signposted "La Linga" and” Col de Bassachaux”. Take the right fork into a hamlet called La Pesse. About four hundred yards down the road on the left you will see a sign (hand painted) by a small turning with "Hameaux de Saix" written on it. Take this turn and follow the lane around and sharp left up a small hill. At the top will be a little hut with two rubbish bins in and a large box of letter boxes on the outside. You will be seeing a number of new chalets on the right after the bins. Ours is the third house.

If you need to ask direction we are called "Les Chalets du Bois Riant", in "La Pesse" by the "Hameaux du Saix". The Main road above the house leads to Chatel, so if you find yourself in Chatel proper you know you have gone too far. You should be able to see our house from the top road or the bottom road. There are about 12 new built chalets lying between the two roads where they fork.
